Digital Organizer
Forward Montana (FMT) is seeking a full-time Digital Organizer to create engaging content that supports programmatic, development, and organizational goals at Forward Montana and Forward Montana Foundation.
The ideal candidate is someone with video creation and editing skills and a passion for following and responding to Montana news. You’ll excel in this role if you love social media, have a knack for connecting with trends, you’re a newshound, and you have a creative mind.
Who We Are
Forward Montana, founded in 2004, is the state's largest youth-led, youth-focused civic engagement organization. Forward Montana (FMT) and Forward Montana Foundation (FMF) are dedicated to supporting young Montanans in shaping their democracy to improve their lives and the lives of fellow Montanans through direct voter engagement, mobilization and strategic campaigns. We put young people on the front lines of civic engagement statewide, basing our efforts in youth-dense communities including Bozeman, Missoula, Billings, and the greater Flathead area.
What You’ll Do
The Digital Organizer reports to the Communications Director and is responsible for the following:
60% Social Media Engagement
Develop and manage Forward Montana’s new and existing social media accounts. Strategize in collaboration with the Communications Director and Social Media and Content Coordinator.
This includes posting content, responding to comments, engaging with partner/affiliate organizations and uplifting Forward Montana’s narrative in relevant conversations.
Organize online supporters to take offline actions in order to push our campaigns forward and integrate volunteers into our organization.
Develop and maintain relationships with volunteers and activists to move them into a ladder of engagement with Forward Montana
Cultivate networks of organizers, activists, and micro-influencers to create and share compelling online content.
This may include setting up and monitoring accounts on platforms like Reddit, NextDoor, Twitter and Membership Discord channel.
Own the implementation of the organic content distribution program at Forward Montana and partner with staff to ensure the program is incorporated into strategic plans and goals
40% Video Creation, Editing and Organization
Archive and tag all photo and video content across programs and campaigns.
Stay up-to-date on relevant trends and cultural moments and find ways to weave them into Forward Montana’s messaging
Collaborate closely with staff to develop content and uplift relevant information, events, and calls to action.
You can create a short-videos for TikTok and Instagram
Attend events where Forward Montana is present to capture photo and video of staff and volunteers in action

Creative passion and experience
Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Forward-thinking, innovative, and creative mindset willing to push FMT to new boundaries in the online space and in relation to our vision and mission.
Experience using online tools to grow, engage and mobilize
You understand Forward Montana’s ~*vibe*~ and are excited to continue to reach new audiences through innovative an inviting design and channels
Writing chops
You can take complex ideas (like a bill proposed in the MT legislature) and boil it down to a few bite-sized, accessible bullet points
You’re not afraid to be cheeky in your writing and know how to adopt a brand voice
Demonstrated ability to work independently to manage a variety of projects and deadlines
You’re comfortable balancing multiple tasks per day
You have an iterative approach to systems and are open to collaborating with team members
You’re not afraid to ask for support when determining what project you should prioritize
You can work with a team and in community; highly organized
You proactively escalate issues, observations, opportunities, and insights to the Communications Director
Up to date on social media platform best practices and trends
You’re comfortable being funny, bold, and casual when it comes to creating social media content and harnessing trends quickly
Even if you don’t personally use every social channel, you understand the value of social media for storytelling, outreach, and engagement!

If you were the Digital Organizer right now, you would be:
Monitoring relevant topics on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok as well as local news sources and partner organizations
Setting up and monitoring accounts on platforms like Reddit, NextDoor, and/or Twitter.
Responding to DMs, comments and engaging with affiliate and partner organizations - maybe even setting up a one on one conversation with an online supporter!
Attending community-building events to capture photos and video
Creating video content around issues happening around the state or specific moments we can inform our audience on

Logistics
This position is full-time (40 hours/week) and is based in Montana. Applicants must be permanent residents of Montana. Preferred locations are Bozeman, Billings and Missoula but applicants in other locations will also be considered.
You must be comfortable working unconventional hours occasionally -- including nights and weekends
This position includes both in-person and virtual components
You must be comfortable being managed and building relationships with our statewide team remotely
This is a non-exempt, temporary position at $24 per hour. This is a full-time 40 hr/week position with a tentative start date of May 18, 2026 and an end date of May 31, 2027 with an opportunity for an extension pending funding. Forward Montana also offers the following benefits:
