Social Media and Content Coordinator

Forward Montana (FMT) is seeking a full-time Social Media and Content Coordinator to create engaging content that supports programmatic, development, and organizational goals at Forward Montana and Forward Montana Foundation.

The ideal candidate is someone with graphic design skills and a passion for following Montana news. You’ll excel in this role if you love social media, have a knack for connecting with trends, and and you have all-star writing skills.

We strive to transform government and communities to be just, sustainable, and equitable while working toward a future where Montana celebrates and reflects the diversity of our generation. We support young people to build power with and for each other to create lasting change.

What You’ll Do

The Social Media and Content Coordinator reports to the Communications Manager and is responsible for the following:

30% Social Media Management

  • Manage Forward Montana’s Facebook and Instagram account and strategy in collaboration with the Communications Manager. This includes posting content, responding to comments, engaging with partner/affiliate organizations and uplifting Forward Montana’s narrative in relevant conversations. 
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant trends and cultural moments.
  • Collaborate closely with staff to develop content and uplift relevant information/events.

70% Asset Creation

  • Create fun and engaging graphics and social media posts that support organizational goals such as upcoming events, projects, volunteer requests, etc.
  • Create physical assets such as fliers, quarter sheets, stickers, and swag for various events and projects
  • Collect photos and videos from staff members along with getting out into the field yourself to document the badass organizing happening!
  • May be responsible for large digital and/or physical asset creation such as Transcendent Joy Zine and voter guides

Must-Haves

  • Creative passion and experience
    • You are proficient in web-based tools like Canva and creative software like Adobe.
    • You can create a short-video for TikTok and Instagram.
    • You understand Forward Montana’s ~*vibe*~ and are excited to continue to reach new audiences through innovative an inviting design and channels.
  • Writing Chops
    • You can take complex ideas (like a bill proposed in the MT legislature) and boil it down to a few bite-sized, accessible bullet points.
    • You easily navigate between writing captions for social posts and long-form content like blog posts.
    • You’re not afraid to be cheeky in your writing and know how to adopt a brand voice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to manage a variety of projects and deadlines
    • You have an iterative approach to systems and are open to collaborating with team members.
    • You’re comfortable balancing rapid response communications requests with ongoing, long-term projects.
    • You’re not afraid to ask for support with project prioritization.
  • Up to date on social media platform best practices and trends
    • You’re comfortable being bold when it comes to creating social media content and harnessing trends quickly.
    • Even if you don’t personally use every social channel, you understand the value of social media for storytelling, outreach, and engagement!

  • Monitoring relevant topics on Instagra, Facebook, TikTok,and local news sources
  • Creating bold graphics in Canva to publish on social media using branding guidelines and best practices
  • Pitching ideas for Forward Montana merch and swag 
  • Attending community-building events to capture photos and video

Logistics

  • This position is full-time (40 hours/week) and is based in Montana. Applicants must be permanent residents of Montana. Preferred locations are Bozeman, Missoula, and Billings, but applicants in other locations in Montana will also be considered. 
  • You must be comfortable working unconventional hours occasionally -- including  nights and weekends
  • This position includes both in-person and virtual components based on public health guidance around COVID-19
  • You must be comfortable being managed and building relationships with our statewide team remotely

This is a full-time (40 hrs/week) non-exempt position at $24 per hour. Forward Montana also offers the following benefits:
